She was just as famous as he was. Maybe even more. The thought barely crossed Kenneth’s mind before his phone buzzed in his hand. He checked the screen and couldn’t help smiling. He answered with a playful tone, “Seriously? We’ve only been apart for a little bit. You miss me already?”
There was nothing but silence on the other end. Two long seconds ticked by, then the call was cut off.
Kenneth just sat there, confused. Had he said something wrong? Did he make her mad?
He barely started wondering if he should call her back when Knox’s phone started ringing.
“Pam?” Knox glanced at Kenneth, brows furrowed as he answered. After listening for a moment, worry crept into his voice. “Emily? Wasn’t she with you?”
“What do you mean you can’t find her? Her phone’s not connecting?”
Kenneth’s stomach sank. He remembered what happened at the hotel earlier and reached for the door, ready to jump out of the car.
“Kenneth!” Knox grabbed his arm, panicking. His jaw clenched as he hissed, “There are fans everywhere out there. If you show your face right now, it’ll be chaos.”
“You’ve got a concert coming up. If anything goes wrong now…”
“I don’t care about a concert,” Kenneth snapped, his voice low and rough. His eyes looked wild, desperate. “None of that matters. I just want her. I want Emily.”
He broke free and pushed the door open, not caring about what would happen next. He took off, Knox’s voice echoing behind him.
“Kenneth…”
Knox ran a hand through his hair, feeling helpless and frustrated, but followed after him without a second thought.
Outside the VIP entrance, fans pressed in, faces full of anticipation. Every eye was glued to the exit. Suddenly, someone called out, “Is that Kenneth?”
The crowd buzzed. All eyes turned. Phones shot up, cameras flashing. Reporters and fans rushed for photos, voices rising in excitement and confusion.
