Emily recognized two of them right away. They were Adela’s guys, the ones who always hung around her like shadows.
But the third person... he looked filthy, his whole face twisted, drool trickling constantly from the corner of his mouth. When she caught him staring at her with that disgusting look, every nerve in Emily’s body went taut.
Adela wanted to ruin her, and Emily could feel it in the air.
“You figured it out, didn’t you?” Adela's voice dripped satisfaction as she noticed the way the color drained from Emily’s face. She tilted her head, a smirk playing on her lips. “Too bad you woke up so late. We could’ve started this little party sooner.”
Emily’s hands balled into fists so tight her nails dug into her skin. She bit down hard on her lower lip until her mouth tasted of blood.
There was a clock on the wall, ticking away. By now, it had been an hour and a half since she’d been dragged here.
“Relax. Kenneth and the Blair family aren’t going to find you...” Adela cocked an eyebrow, clearly enjoying herself as she watched Emily struggle. “Emily.”
Without even looking at her, Adela unlocked her phone, pulled up Twitter, and tossed it onto the table in front of Emily. The screen was filled with headlines about the Blair family turning the city upside down searching for someone, but it was all for nothing. They hadn’t found a single thing.
Did everyone already know who she really was?
Adela crouched in front of her, her eyes gleaming as she reached out and brushed her long red-tipped nails across Emily’s cheek. “Just imagine it. A famous actress, the precious daughter of a rich family, taken down by a filthy beggar. Everyone in Eldoria would lose their minds. Don’t you think?”
Her hand drifted lower, then suddenly she gripped Emily’s chin and forced her head up, making her look straight at the man drooling on the other side of the room.
Pain shot through Emily’s jaw and her brow twitched. The moment their eyes met, icy fear shot up her spine, so sharp it almost knocked the breath out of her.
