“But I just feel like your heart was never really with me.” Lilian hugged Jace tightly, holding onto him as if she was afraid to ever let go. “It’s okay now though. We’re finally together. Jace, promise me we will never be apart.”
Jace stood there, his face calm and distant, barely reacting as Lilian clung to him.
When they stepped out of the room, Brandon was waiting in the hallway. “Lilian, how was last night with Jace?”
Lilian’s smile was bright and proud. “Dad, Jace is part of our family now.”
Brandon’s laughter echoed down the hall. “That’s right, Jace. We’re family. I already called our important guest, and he’s on his way here.”
Jace’s eyes narrowed a little. “He’s coming here?”
“Yeah, he’s coming to be at your and Lilian’s wedding.”
Jace blinked. “Wedding?”
“That’s right. I talked to him on the phone. He agreed to come, and I’ve already started the wedding preparations. You and Lilian will get married in three days.”
Three days? Jace pressed his lips together. Brandon was such a sly old man. Yesterday he forced Jace and Lilian to spend the night together. Now he was just announcing a wedding in three days.
Jace had been planning to find a way to delay things. He never expected the wedding to be set so soon or for that big shot to attend. There was no way out.
Lilian stared at him, her smile fading just a bit. “Jace, do you not want to marry me?”
Brandon and Lilian were both watching him, waiting for his answer. After a moment, Jace said, “Of course I do. I was just thinking three days is really fast. Didn’t you want a custom wedding dress?”
Lilian’s smile returned instantly. “Don’t worry about that, Jace. My dress has been ordered for ages. Dad, you have to give Jace a few days off so he can go shopping with me. I want to be the most beautiful bride in the world.”
Brandon grinned. “No problem. You two have fun. Go buy whatever you need.”
Lilian laughed, her eyes sparkling.
