After all the chaos just now, Nannie had finally calmed down.
Standing at Kent’s side, she lowered her head, her delicate face clouded with hurt. “Kent, I didn’t mean it. It’s just… when I saw her, I couldn’t help it. I got angry, you know how I am. Sometimes I just can’t control myself.”
She blamed it all on her condition.
But Kent saw right through her little act. His voice was low and firm, leaving no room for argument. “I’ll book your ticket. Pack your things. You’re flying out tomorrow for treatment.”
Nannie’s face froze.
She stared at Kent, wide-eyed, then suddenly let out a brittle laugh.
“So this is it, Kent? You’re dumping me?” Tears welled up, spilling down her cheeks as she looked utterly pitiful. “All your promises mean nothing now, is that it? Maybe I’d be better off dead!”
“Nannie!”
Kent’s expression darkened. His jaw clenched and a flash of anger flickered in his sharp eyes. He pressed his lips together, clearly struggling to keep his temper in check. The whole atmosphere grew tense.
He liked to think he’d done all he could for Nannie.
He’d tolerated so much from her over the years.
But today, she’d completely lost it—right in front of Silvia.
He couldn’t get that image out of his head: Silvia’s face pale with fear. The more he thought about it, the more annoyed he became.
“I warned you. Stay away from my wife.”
He tossed out the words and turned to leave. But before he could take two steps, Nannie suddenly dropped to the ground behind him.
