Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 297

A better person…

The words hung in the air. Vianne lowered her gaze, her hand at her side clenching unconsciously.

She looked at Jewel with a half-smile—one that didn’t quite reach her eyes, which glimmered with a trace of mockery.

“You never should have switched me and Silvia back then.”

Vianne’s voice was calm but icy, the smile on her lips growing colder. “Silvia was engaged to Kent. If I had stayed with the Ashford family, the one marrying Kent would have been me.”

There was a wildness to her words that left Jewel stunned and speechless.

After a moment, Jewel shook her head and reached for Vianne’s hand, her tone much gentler now. “Vianne, it wasn’t my decision to switch you two. The truth came out and I had no choice but to do what was right.”

Digging up the past now seemed pointless.

Vianne pulled her hand away, about to say something more when her assistant called again.

She quickly composed herself and reminded Jewel, “Pick up. Accept the invitation. And don’t forget to be there at noon.”

The call stayed on speaker.

Before the assistant could say a word, Jewel jumped in, her voice hurried and a little forced. “That was just me joking earlier. I know who Mr. Parsons is. If you’re reaching out to me, it must be about Silvia, right? She may not be my biological daughter, but I raised her as my own. If this concerns her, I’ll be there at noon.”

She got straight to the point, shutting down any further discussion from the assistant.

So, she’d already asked Kent about this—and just like that, she knew who he was? The assistant didn’t push further. “Alright, since you’ve agreed, I won’t say more. Just don’t forget to come to Neon Gastronomy at noon.”

“Of course,” Jewel replied.

The call ended, but Jewel looked at Vianne with obvious anxiety. “Vianne, what am I supposed to say to Kent? I barely know anything about him.”

Vianne’s eyes narrowed slightly, recalling all the things Kent had done for Silvia. There was a cold, distant edge to her expression.
