Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 299

“What?!”

Vianne stared at Jewel, watching her clutch the sleek credit card and shower it with kisses, her eyes darting with nervous energy.

“You said you came back to help me, but look at you now! Is this your idea of helping?”

Jewel was still sprawled on the bed, gazing at the card as if it were a piece of art, the smile on her lips growing wider by the second.

There was a million dollars on that card—more than enough to leave this city behind and start fresh somewhere else, to finally live the life she’d always wanted. And if she ever ran out, she could always return to Capital City and squeeze more money out of Kent. The thought made her giddy; her smile only grew brighter.

“Enough!”

Vianne strode forward, snatching the card from Jewel’s hand and tossing it aside.

She grabbed at Jewel’s shirt, her eyes rimmed red. “If you’d done just a little better back then, I wouldn’t have to risk everything now, sneaking around trying to destroy evidence!”

Everything was different now. The Ashford family treated her like an outsider; getting near the study was nearly impossible. But Jewel only cared about living it up—she could never understand how trapped Vianne felt.

Thinking this, Vianne’s expression hardened. She fixed her glare on Jewel and raised her voice. “You show up out of nowhere, and I still have no idea what you’re really after. And now, you just waltz off with a million from Kent and get ready to vanish!”
