"What's wrong, Luther?"
The guy sidled up to him, intrigued. "Having trouble with a girl? Don't tell me your legendary reputation has finally caught up with you."
Luther shoved him lightly. "Get lost. Can't you wish me well for once?"
The guy stumbled but wasn't offended, just grinned. "Well, what else could it be? Come on, man, tell me. I might not be a master like you, but I've got some experience. We can brainstorm, put our heads together."
Luther figured he had a point and showed him the message Patricia had just sent.
"What's wrong with it?" The guy genuinely didn't see anything odd about the sticker Patricia had sent. "It's kinda cute."
Luther explained, "Last night, I could feel she was into me. Our chat after she got back to her dorm was super flirty."
"I've been studying her for a while now. Whenever she doesn't know what to say, she uses stickers."
"Whoa," the guy said. "Luther, it's a crime you're not a psychology major. Such wasted talent."
"So you're saying she's gone cold?"
Luther nodded.
The guy had been at the bar that night too. He remembered the other girl, Naomi. "You think it has something to do with that girl, Naomi?"
"I know her. I actually looked her up when I got back. That girl's got some moves. She used to chase Zebulon around relentlessly, then she switched to playing hard to get. I heard Zebulon even confessed to her, but she turned him down. She's impressive, I'll give her that. No one calls her a doormat anymore; they all call her the 'woke leading lady.'"
"Isn't she just using Zebulon to climb the social ladder? Does she really think people can't see through her act?"
"I bet she's just jealous. Since she can't get a boyfriend, she doesn't want her roommate to have one either."
"How else do you explain Patricia's attitude changing overnight? You can't tell me something fishy isn't going on."
That did make sense.
Luther had a perfect track record, but he'd struck out with Patricia twice now.
