He turned around, looking at Naomi with frustration. “Does being with me make you that uncomfortable?”
That line might have worked before, but it didn't move Naomi now.
She answered honestly, “I’m sorry, I just don’t like getting too close to guys.”
Nelson took a step closer to her. “Is it because of Zebulon?”
“Zebulon?”
Naomi looked at him, confused. She had no idea what this had to do with Zebulon.
“Everyone knows you used to have a crush on Zebulon.”
“I heard about it too.”
“When I saw you the other day, I was pretty surprised. The rumor was that you wouldn’t go to any gathering unless Zebulon was there.”
Naomi frowned.
She didn’t want to be reminded of that part of her past.
Nodding, Naomi said nonchalantly, “It has nothing to do with Zebulon. I’m just not interested in that scene anymore.”
Nelson raised an eyebrow and suddenly smirked. “So, you know I’m into you?”
Naomi froze, feeling an awkward wave wash over her.
This guy just dropped a confession out of nowhere, with no regard for how she might feel.
Naomi genuinely wondered how he could have developed feelings for her. They had only met twice.
Did people fall in love this quickly?
“I’m sorry, but I don’t like you.”
Naomi wasn’t going to let him get the wrong idea.
She looked at him seriously. “I appreciate it, but I really don’t feel the same way.”
