Tossing and turning until the early hours of the morning without reaching any conclusion, Naomi finally drifted into a restless sleep.
The next morning, when her alarm blared, the consequences of her late night hit her full force.
Naomi fought back a wave of drowsiness as she went to wash up, the cold water splashing on her face finally waking her up a bit.
"You look like you barely slept. Didn't we go to bed pretty early last night?"
Naomi shot Patricia a resentful look.
Easy for you to say, she thought. You got your answers and slept like a baby while I was up half the night agonizing.
But Naomi was no longer in the mood to talk about it.
She and Patricia quickly grabbed breakfast from the cafeteria and made it to their classroom just in time, both letting out a sigh of relief.
"Thank god we're not late."
They found a spot in the corner and sat down. A moment later, their desks vibrated as both their phones buzzed simultaneously.
"It's a message from Luther," Patricia said, her expression suddenly complicated.
"In every other respect, he's absolutely flawless."
She showed her phone screen to Naomi.
Naomi leaned in for a look and immediately understood what Patricia meant.
In their chat window, Luther had sent a string of warm and caring messages.
Early morning classes always put everyone in a bit of a cranky mood, but reading his humorous and attentive texts would surely brighten anyone's day.
"How should I reply?"
Patricia wasn't one for acting. Now that she was out of the flirtatious bubble, she couldn't fake her admiration for Luther anymore. So, she just sent a sticker in response.
