"I'm literally wearing a fresh set of pajamas!"
She looked at Naomi with a hint of grievance. "Naomi, you've really changed. Ever since you started working at that studio, you don't pay attention to me anymore. You used to notice if I even clipped my nails, and now... nothing."
Naomi was floored by Patricia's accusation.
"When have I ever noticed you clipping your nails?!"
Was something that minor really worth her attention?
"You did! Remember that one time you asked, 'Patricia, did you clip your nails?'"
Naomi blinked, racking her brain until she finally recalled when she might have said that.
"No! I only said that because I happened to notice you'd taken off your acrylics. You had this crazy rainbow manicure, it was kind of hard to miss!"
Did Patricia seriously think she paid special attention to her nails?
Naomi hugged herself defensively. "Patricia, are you... still into guys?"
Patricia burst out laughing at Naomi's wide-eyed panic.
"Would you break up with me if I wasn't?"
Naomi could tell she was joking and rolled her eyes. "Alright, alright, stop teasing me."
Patricia howled with laughter.
"Okay, okay, are you going to tell me or not? We have an early class tomorrow, you know."
Patricia finally remembered the important thing she wanted to discuss. She scrambled onto her bed just as the campus-wide lights-out began. Switching on the small night light by the window, the soft glow made the blush on her cheeks stand out.
"So... Luther took me on a late-night walk..."
Patricia described in detail the moment she felt a spark with Luther, gushing about how he was everything she'd ever imagined in a partner.
