When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 339

A memory flashed through Nancy’s mind, Jonah diving into that bar fight without a second thought. Her face tensed. For a moment, she struggled to find her voice, then finally spoke, her tone quiet. “Honestly, if the spokesperson gets caught up in a scandal, that’ll do way more damage to the launch than any rumors about the boss of Never.”

“Is that what you think?” Nelly didn’t seem convinced.

To her, the real risk was the Watson family. If she became a target of gossip, they’d be the first ones to turn their backs on her. If the Watsons cut her off, it wouldn’t matter how perfect the launch was. Never would have a hard time breaking into the market. Plus, her entire inheritance depended on their approval.

“So what do you think it is, then?” Nancy shot back.

“I just think you didn’t want to sell me out to Rudy,” Nelly replied.

“You’re giving me way too much credit.”

Nelly grinned. “People who keep insisting they’re bad usually aren’t half as bad as they say.”

After she joked, Nelly’s voice softened. “You know I’m stuck in the middle of a divorce, right? I don’t want the Watsons to find out, and I sure don’t want that guy on the outside sniffing around my business.”

Nancy raised an eyebrow, teasing, “What, worried he’ll come after your billions?”

She leaned back in her chair, studying Nelly. “He seems pretty into you, you know. And I have to say, he’s easy on the eyes.”

Being in showbiz, Nancy had pretty high standards. But Brody? He was something else. Honestly, in her list of favorite types, he’d make the top two.

Nelly just scoffed. “You never really know someone. Guys love to put on a show.”

She added, “He’s got someone he really cares about.”

That only made Nancy more curious. “If he’s into someone else, why would you two even…”
