When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 338

“I don’t need the Watson family behind me. Brody, you stopped being special to me a long time ago.” Nelly’s voice was soft but icy.

Anyone watching would have thought something was going on between them. Their little huddle looked way too intimate. Brody had a body that could turn heads anywhere, lean waist, strong arms, the collar and cuffs of his shirt undone just enough to reveal golden skin and those sharp muscles standing out under the lights. Nelly’s dress didn’t hide much either, her bare shoulders and smooth back tracing out her graceful figure.

Even standing apart, the two of them looked like they were made to turn heads. Standing close together, bodies almost touching, it was impossible not to think they were about to kiss. The whole room seemed to hold its breath. Nelly’s assistant, who was still young and a bit shy, quickly turned away, face flushing. But the rest of the crew couldn’t look away, completely caught in the moment.

“What are you staring at? Never seen two people talk in private before?” Nancy’s voice suddenly broke through, snapping the tension. Instantly, Nelly stepped away from Brody.

Nancy had already changed out of her outfit. She was now wearing a green open-knit sweater, a denim mini skirt, and a black clutch in her hand. Her makeup was gone, leaving her looking fresh and almost glowing.

After Nancy spoke, everyone else rushed to find a reason to leave, and soon it was just the three of them left in the dressing room.

“Nancy, he’s…” Nelly hesitated, not sure how to introduce Brody as Nancy glanced at him.

“I heard about him already. He’s the guest who helped out today, right? An old friend of yours?” Nancy said, her voice calm and a little distant as she looked at Brody.

“You could say we know each other. He just happened to be in France today, so I invited him to the show.” Nelly jumped in before Brody could speak, keeping her face perfectly calm as she lied.

Brody’s expression tightened a little. He gave a small, crooked smile but didn’t contradict her. He reached out a hand to Nancy.
