When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 376

Brody was kneeling over her, his face flushed and his eyes dark with a mess of emotions. He grabbed her chin, holding her firmly, looking right into her red, tear-filled eyes. There was anger in them, sure, but also a deep hurt and a kind of despair that made it hard to breathe.

“Nelly,” he said, his voice rough and quiet, “is there really no way back for us?”

Why did everything have to fall apart like this? Was starting over really that impossible?

Nelly swallowed, a little scared, but she kept her voice steady. “Brody, you’re ridiculous.” She gritted her teeth, forcing the words out.

“If you ever find out you were wrong about me, would you still hate me?”

His question came out so soft it was almost like he was talking to himself. His thick brows pulled tight, and for a second, the usual arrogance in his face faded, replaced by something she almost didn’t recognize—helplessness.

Nelly blinked, thrown off. Was he just trying to mess with her again?

She didn’t get the chance to answer. Suddenly, chaos exploded outside the door. Over all the shouting, Sheila’s panicked scream cut through everything.

“Brody! Help me…”

Brody reacted instantly. He shoved Nelly aside and bolted for the door.

Downstairs, Sheila was on the floor, blood streaming from a cut on her forehead. The bodyguards nearby looked confused, unsure what to do. And outside, the sound of police sirens was getting closer.

It wasn’t long before Nelly and Brody found themselves at the police station.
