As Nancy spoke, Nelly noticed her cheeks turning a light shade of pink. Nancy’s emotions were always written all over her face, even back when she’d betrayed her. It made her easy to read.
“You two change clothes way too slowly,” Brody complained as soon as Nelly and Nancy stepped out of the dressing room. He was never one to wait around. His time was precious, and lately he’d been spending way too much of it on Nelly.
“If you’re so impatient, feel free to leave,” Nelly shot back. She was still in no mood to be polite to him. She grabbed Nancy’s hand, ready to walk away, but Brody reached out and pulled her to his side.
Nelly’s dress was a loose, white silk gown with a deep V-neck. It was definitely on the revealing side.
“Brody!” she protested.
“Who told you it was okay to dress like this at a business event?” Brody ignored her glare, dragging her back into the dressing room and throwing a big, sapphire blue blazer over her shoulders.
Nelly tried to shake him off, but Brody’s grip was firm. Nancy stepped in right away.
“Mr. Garland, don’t you think you’re being a bit much? What Nelly wears is her business,” Nancy said.
“Sure, it’s her choice. I’m just looking out for her, so she doesn’t end up in trouble again, like last time,” Brody replied calmly, finally letting go of Nelly’s arm.
Nancy froze. Was he talking about that time she and Rudy had set Nelly up and had someone spike her drink? The memory made Nancy feel a wave of guilt. She didn’t say another word.
Brody wasn’t the type to listen to anyone else, and since there were still events left tonight, Nelly decided to just put up with him for now. Annoyed, she yanked off the blazer and tossed it aside.
