When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 329

“Nelly, do you really hate me that much?”

“Yes. I do.”

Brody let go of her hand. There was a heavy pain in his chest and he had to lean on the table, suddenly feeling like his legs might give out.

Nelly turned to leave, but when she glanced back, she realized he wasn’t pretending. After a moment of hesitation, she went back to him.

“Brody…”

He didn’t answer. His face was completely drained of color, a thin layer of sweat covering his forehead. Then his body gave out and he started to collapse.

Nelly caught him just in time, shocked by how hot his skin was. Panic set in. “Hey, hang in there… Where does it hurt? Is it your wound, or your heart?”

Brody clenched his jaw but didn’t say a word.

A waiter saw what was happening and hurried over, asking if they needed help.

Nelly pulled out her phone to call for an ambulance, but Brody stopped her. He took a shaky breath and tried to steady himself. “I just need some rest. I’ll be fine.”

“You don’t look fine. Do you have any medicine with you?” Nelly’s eyes dropped to where he was pressing his hand over his heart, worry etched on her face.

“It’s with Alan,” he said.

“Where is he?”

“I told him not to come.”

Brody’s voice was weak. He started coughing, his face turning red. He looked so fragile, so out of place from his usual arrogant self.

Nelly blinked, at a loss for words. She knew Brody too well. If Alan saw him like this, Brody would die of embarrassment.
