Alan said it felt like someone was deliberately getting in his way. Everything was confusing, right up until he figured out that the guy involved was from the Watson family. Then suddenly, it all made sense. The entire area where she worked belonged to the Watsons. Lately, Nelly’s account had been all over Nancy’s posts online. Using Nancy’s updates, Brody quickly tracked down the hotel where Nelly was staying.
When Brody explained all this, Nelly finally let out a breath she’d been holding.
“Yeah, that’s right. I work for the Watson family. I’m actually busy tonight, so if you have something to say, please make it quick.”
Nelly spoke fast, wanting to wrap things up before anyone saw them together. That would be seriously awkward.
“You have an event tonight?” Brody’s voice was cool, almost indifferent.
His eyes lingered on her face for a moment. Nelly’s hair was softly curled, giving her a relaxed yet polished look. Her skin was dewy and bare, hardly any makeup, just natural and bright. The simplicity made her even more attractive.
“Yeah.” Nelly nodded. “I don’t have much time. In about ten minutes, I need to head back and get ready.”
“These social events aren’t really your thing,” Brody said, almost to himself. He remembered that party at Gina’s, when Nelly was nearly drugged and dragged away.
“Brody, why are you really here? Did you just come to give me a lecture?” Nelly’s patience was running thin. She stood, ready to go, but Brody caught her wrist.
“I was in the hospital for days. You didn’t visit. Not even once.”
He looked down, his voice strangely quiet, carrying something heavy.
