If Brody was reaching out, it could only be about something between the two of them was left unresolved.
“I…” Brody started.
“Are you out of the hospital?” Brody’s voice was calm and deep, but before he could finish, Nelly cut him off.
He felt a flicker of hope in his chest. “Yeah,” he replied, his tone softer than usual, thinking maybe she was worried about him.
But Nelly didn’t seem to notice anything different. Her voice stayed cool. “I’m busy right now. When I get back home, I’ll come find you.”
“Come find me?” Brody sounded surprised. “You mean you’ll actually come looking for me?”
“That’s right,” Nelly said. “We still need to talk about the divorce. There are some things you should know.”
Like the truth about Sheila. And who would get custody of their daughter.
“Divorce? You’re coming all this way just to talk about ending our marriage?” Brody’s voice turned cold. There was a strange, almost mocking smile in his words.
“What else would it be? Didn’t Tina already tell you? As soon as you got out of the hospital, you were supposed to divorce me.”
Nelly sounded completely indifferent, like she was discussing someone else’s life, not her own.
Wasn’t this why he was so eager to find her? He had barely left the hospital and already couldn’t wait to call.
Honestly, she’d only put off the divorce because he’d gotten hurt for her. Now that he was better, it was time to deal with things once and for all.
The silence on the line stretched out. Nelly was about to hang up when Brody finally spoke again.
“What are you doing in France?”
“It’s none of your…”
“Let’s talk in person.”
Brody’s voice was cold and firm, not asking for her opinion. He was used to giving orders, not suggestions.
“In person?” Nelly let out a short laugh. “Right now?”
