The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 625

Ella let out a soft laugh, her eyes twinkling with something Rachel couldn’t quite place.

“Ella, what’s so funny? You killed my husband and now you’re laughing?” Rachel’s voice was shrill, but there was a tremble underneath. Something about that smile put her on edge.

Ella met her gaze, cool and calm. “Are you really that sure he’s dead?”

Rachel’s mouth fell open. “What else could it be, Ella? He’s not breathing. He’s gone.”

“Why don’t you check again?”

Rachel hesitated, then slowly reached out and pressed her fingers beneath Peter’s nose. His skin felt cold. No breath. Nothing.

She started to pull her hand away, ready to snap at Ella for playing with her, when Peter’s eyes flew open.

Rachel screamed, her voice echoing through the room. Before she could move, Peter’s hand shot out and grabbed her wrist.

He had been dead. She was sure of it. Now he was grabbing her like some kind of vengeful spirit. Rachel tore herself free, tripping and crashing to the floor. “No. No, it’s a ghost. He’s a ghost!”

Grandma Jill rushed to the bedside. Her whole face lit up with hope, tears sparkling in her eyes. “Peter? Peter, are you awake?”

Rachel looked up in disbelief. She watched as Peter struggled for a breath, his chest rising and falling. The beeping of the heart monitor steadied, filling the room with a sound that meant life.

He was back. Breathing. Alive.

Rachel stared, stunned. She had checked. She had felt for a pulse, for warmth, for anything, and found nothing. Now, somehow, he was alive. It didn’t make sense. It was like witnessing a miracle.
