Victoria’s eyes filled with tears, the rims turning pink as she tried to hold it in. Ever since her mom died, she’d never imagined she could have a family again. Now, somehow, she did. She had a sister. She had a dad. It felt like a dream she was afraid to even hope for.
“Lilly, I…” Her voice wavered.
Lilly reached out, gently wiping away Victoria’s tears. “Victoria, from now on, I’ll be your sister. Welcome home. You’re part of this family, and I promise I’ll look out for you. When you’re older and doing big things, you’ll look out for me too, right? We’re family now. Always.”
Victoria nodded hard, tears streaming down her cheeks. “Yeah!”
Outside the front gate, Jace stood watching, eyes stinging. He never expected Lilly would really bring his little sister into the Lynch family like this.
A couple of maids walked by, whispering to each other. “Victoria’s so lucky. She met our young lady and now she’s a Lynch. Talk about life changing.”
“For a girl her age, it’s the best thing that could ever happen.”
Their voices faded as they walked away.
Jace blinked hard, his eyes hot and wet. He stared at Lilly, the girl who’d charged into his life and changed it in ways he still couldn’t believe.
He pulled out his phone and found her number. He had to talk to her.
There was so much he’d never managed to say. About his dad. About him and Lilian. About everything. All the things he’d kept locked up, he wanted to tell her now, one by one.
He wanted to lay it all out, show her every raw part of himself.
He wanted her to know it was over. All of it. From now on, he only belonged to her.
And he needed her to hear it. He loved her. More than anything. More than she could ever imagine.
