Lilly stood frozen at the entrance, unable to move. She stared, wide-eyed, at what was happening inside. Jace was actually marrying Lilian. For a moment, her mind couldn’t even process it.
How could this be real?
Beside her, Lucas spoke up quietly. “Lilly, do you see now? This is Jace and Lilian’s wedding.”
Lilly shook her head and stepped back, almost stumbling.
Inside, the host stepped onto the stage, his voice echoing through the hall. “Thank you, everyone, for joining us today to celebrate the wedding of Jace and Lilian. The ceremony is about to begin. Let’s welcome the bride and groom.”
The lights dimmed instantly. Soft notes of the wedding march filled the air. Lilian walked arm in arm with Jace down the red carpet, their steps slow and steady as they approached the officiant.
The officiant smiled at them. “Miss Whitman, do you willingly take Jace to be your husband? No matter what happens, rich or poor, healthy or sick, do you promise to stay by his side?”
Lilian’s cheeks flushed pink. “I do.”
Then the officiant turned to Jace. “Mr. Monaghan, do you willingly take Lilian to be your wife? Will you stay together through every high and low?”
Lilly felt her heart crack. It was like someone had driven a knife right into her chest. How could Jace actually bring Lilian to the altar? She never thought he would really go through with it.
He was really marrying someone else.
Next to her, Lucas let out a cold laugh. “Do you get it now, Lilly? Have you finally woken up? You spent all that time taking care of Jace’s mom and his sister, and now he’s marrying another girl. He’s been lying to you. He’s nothing but a liar.”
Was he really a liar?
Was Jace seriously about to marry Lilian?
Lilly couldn’t believe it. Her hands shook as she pulled her phone out of her pocket. She needed to call him, needed to hear his voice.
