Chapter 439 The Bitter Fruit of Betraying Bethan

After Hugh and Milton stepped in to mediate, the elders of the two families decided that Mason and Gwen would get engaged by the end of the year.

They got in the car, rolled down the windows, and each lit a cigarette.

Mason grinned, clearly in high spirits. "Since when did you start caring about people?"

Hugh stared out of the car window, lost in thought as he puffed on his cigarette.

Seeing Hugh's reaction, Mason said, "I've made up my mind. I'll marry Gwen as soon as she graduates.

"You should make a move on Bethan. You don't wanna get married later than Gwen, right?"

At the mention of Bethan, Hugh's eyelashes fluttered.

There was no chance for them in this life.

Noticing Hugh was in a downcast mood, he puffed on a cigarette, rubbed his knee absentmindedly, then asked, "Hey, Hugh, cut the crap. What's really going on between you and Bethan?"

It was weird. Before their official registration for marriage, they were always together, really affectionate.

But that all changed when Bethan ditched Hugh at the City Hall. Things between them just went haywire after that.

Mason had tried multiple times to get answers from Bethan, but she kept all her secrets to herself.

When he asked Hugh, Hugh was just as uncooperative—he clammed up and wouldn't talk.

It was driving Mason up the wall with curiosity.

Hugh shot Mason a sideways look and quipped, "The wedding's been called off. Take a guess."

Bethan had claimed that he didn't love her.
