Chapter 431 Money Talks
It was 10 p.m. Inside a beauty salon, Maria led Megan and her son up to the suite on the third floor.
"Come on, Megan, this here is my beauty joint. This suite's where I kick back. You and Hudson can crash here for a while," Maria said.
Megan, her nerves frayed and eyes filled with desperation, grabbed onto Maria's hand as if it were a lifeline. "Aunt Maria, I've really ticked off Hugh. There's no way I can go back to Canada. Jasper and Nola want nothing to do with me. I'm lost. What am I gonna do?"
Maria let out a long, weary sigh. "Your mom and brother filled me in. Don't you fret about Hugh. I've got some guys on it. That 60-million-dollar debt? I've squared it away. As long as you stay outta his hair, he won't come after you."
A flicker of relief crossed Megan's face, but it was quickly replaced by a bitter scowl.
All those schemes she'd cooked up for Hugh, and this was how it ended? It just wasn't fair.
Meanwhile, Hudson was off in a corner, lost in his own world of play.
Maria's eyes drifted over to him, then she reached for a tissue and gently dabbed at Megan's tears.
"Megan, honey, you gotta listen to me. While no one's caught wind of this kid yet..." She gave Megan a knowing look, the kind that said more than words ever could.
Megan's gaze landed on her son, and gradually, her eyes filled with resentment.
Caught in a bind, she told Maria, "Aunt Maria, the kid's dad is already married and out of the country. I've tried reaching out to him a few times, but he doesn't want this child. I had no choice but to bring the kid back home."
As she spoke, her eyes seethed with anger. At first, she'd taken a cool 60 million dollars from the Cavill family and skipped the country.
Then she set her sights on Colin from the Hayes family. She managed to get pregnant with his child, thinking she'd marry into the Hayes family and live in luxury forever.
But that jerk refused to take responsibility. He gave her some hush money and married his fiancée.
She'd planned to dump the kid at the Hayes family's doorstep and sneak back home. But Harvey had her watched.
In the end, she couldn't leave and was forced into marriage.
Megan had endured beatings from her husband just to keep this child, hoping that one day, when she returned home, Hugh would know how miserable she'd been and feel guilty about it.
Little did she dream that as soon as she got back, Hugh saw through her scheme and sent her to the police station.
After all that preparation, she hadn't even had a chance to say or do anything.
Maria led Megan into a room and shut the door behind them.
She whispered urgently, "Megan, you can't be stupid right now. You've got to get rid of that kid!"
