Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 426

Chapter 426 Doesn't Even Come Close

Caught in a whirlwind of panic, Megan stepped forward. "That's me," she said, her voice trembling.

The police officer announced firmly, "There's a report that you're suspected of blackmailing a fortune. You'll have to come with us."

Megan staggered back, her eyes wide with terror. "You've got it all wrong! I didn't do it!"

Rachel rushed to her defense. "Officer, my daughter's just returned from overseas. There's no way she could've been involved in blackmail."

Standing beside them, Nola added, "Yeah, we're just regular folks. Breaking the law isn't something we'd ever do."

The officer didn't budge. "The person who reported this has solid evidence. We'll find out the truth once you get to the station."

Megan's mind was in a complete jumble. "I'm innocent! You can't arrest me without proof!"

Frightened and guilt-ridden, she was on the verge of collapse.

Who could be out to frame me right after my return?

In a moment of desperation, she turned to her mother. "Mom, go find Hugh and tell him to help me!"

"Mr. Cavill, Ms. Ridley's been taken into custody."

Hugh sat at his desk, calmly perusing some documents.

Hugh paused. "When's her flight?"

Jacob checked his watch. "It takes off in forty minutes."

Without hesitation, Hugh rescheduled his morning meetings and all other appointments. Then he picked up the phone and called Mason.

Just past ten in the morning, they arrived at the airport.

Mason looked down at his pajama pants and slippers, grumbling, "If you wanted to see her off, why drag me along? You're really something."

Before he could finish his rant, Hugh was already striding towards Bethan.

Mason was left speechless.

He'd been sound asleep after a long night when Hugh's call jolted him awake. He'd thought it was an emergency, so he'd rushed out without even changing.

Now he felt utterly ridiculous.

To hide his embarrassment, he took off his suit jacket and covered his head with it.

Bethan was clearly surprised to see them. "What are you two doing here?"

She reached out and pulled the jacket off Mason's head. "Mason, what's with this get-up?"

Hugh retrieved the jacket from Bethan and tossed it back to Mason. "Heard you're leaving. Didn't have time to change on the way here."

With a half-angry look, Mason shot Hugh a glance.

Bethan stepped forward with a warm smile.

Hugh gave Mason a subtle nod.

Confused, Mason uttered, "What..."
