Chapter 425 Police

Hugh's explosive reaction startled Megan.

She watched him cautiously, her voice soft and almost obedient. "Hugh, come on, be nice. Think of it as paying me back for saving your life. Just do this one little thing for me, will you?" she pleaded.

Hugh was clearly upset but stayed quiet, and that made Megan panic.

With a guilty tone, she prodded him, "Hugh, I'm in this hellhole because of you. I'm not asking for much. Can't you even say yes to this?"

When Hugh still didn't respond, Megan covered her face and broke down sobbing.

"Your grandpa ruined my chance at happiness. I'm just desperate and need your help. If I'd known you'd be this cold, I might as well have died overseas with my kid!"

Wailing, she dashed out of the private room.

Jacob quickly shut the door behind her.

Hugh coolly stubbed out his cigarette and asked, "How's that thing I asked you to handle?"

Jacob replied, "The evidence is at the police station. They'll likely show up soon."

Without a word, Hugh got up and left.

More than ten minutes later, outside the Regal Club, Megan wiped away her tears and stared fixedly at the entrance, fuming and stomping her feet.

She'd run out crying her eyes out, but Hugh hadn't even bothered to follow.

She hung around for a while, reluctant to leave.

When she finally went back in, the room was clean, and Hugh was long gone.

Megan slunk out, seething with a mix of anger, shame, and annoyance.

In her view, she was Hugh's savior and had been brutally wronged by Harvey.

He should've felt guilty and eager to make amends, even if he was engaged.

Why the cold shoulder? What has gone wrong?

The more she thought about it, the more she regretted running out.

Now, she'd gotten nothing: no yes from Hugh, no phone number, and not a single dime.

Megan yanked at her hair in frustration and let out a scream.
