Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 421

Chapter 421 Couldn't Be Mended

In the dead of night, out in the suburban wilderness, Hugh held Bethan tightly, yet still felt a chill seeping through his bones.

The agony of losing her again was driving him to the brink of madness.

With great effort, he reined in his emotions and forced himself to let go of Bethan.

Hunched slightly, he stared blankly at her.

His lower lip quivering, and his bloodshot eyes fixed on her, he managed to choke out, "Don't cry, Bethy. I respect your decision!"

He'd agree to whatever she said, for he had no other choice.

Returning to the relationship of childhood sweethearts meant at least she'd still be in his life.

He'd still have the chance to see her and a reason to stand by her side.

He'd spend a lifetime proving that he truly knew his wrongs and that he loved her.

Hugh promised her, "As long as you're happy, I'll do anything."

Gradually, Bethan stopped crying, and her tense body relaxed.

This time, she chose to believe him.

In as gentle a tone as she could muster, she said to Hugh, "Hugh, I truly hope we'll all be okay this lifetime."

Hugh pressed his thin lips together and let out a soft "hmm" with all his might.

They looked at each other and shared a smile.

But within those smiles, different emotions swirled, and the same tears welled up.

Two hours later, Hugh safely dropped Bethan off at her doorstep.

As she unbuckled her seatbelt and turned to him, she said, "Hugh, drive slowly on your way back and watch out for safety."

Hugh watched blankly as Bethan got out of the car and closed the door. His heart felt tight, and the pain was almost unbearable.

His eyes were red and teary, yet there was a smile on his face, his expression a mix of pain and self-mockery.

It wasn't so bad like this.

At least he was still her friend.

She still cared about him and reminded him to drive safely.

As soon as Bethan stepped into the house, she saw her parents sitting tiredly in the living room, and Barry was asleep on the sofa.

Filled with both warmth and guilt, she asked, "Mom, Dad, why aren't you in bed yet?"

She walked over and woke Barry up.

"Bethan, you're finally back," Barry mumbled sleepily. He then handed her a cup of warm milk he'd been holding and went back to his room.

Bethan was touched.

"You must be hungry after coming back so late. Have a sip to fill your stomach first. I'll ask your dad to heat up some food for you," Miranda said with concern.

Bethan stopped them. "Dad, Mom, don't go to any trouble. I've eaten."

Hugh knew she had low blood sugar, so when they passed by a dining area on the way, he'd stuffed some food in his pocket and given it to her on the way back.

Vincent inquired, "Bethy, what was up with Hugh tonight? Did he give you a hard time?"
