Michelle and the children stood up together and greeted Stephen.
"Honey."
"Dad."
"The situation turned out much better than I expected. Is there any food left? I'm hungry," Stephen said while walking toward the dining room.
"Yes, there is. I'll call Abigail right now," Michelle said as she dialed Abigail's number.
Earlier, after Abigail had brought the food to the table, Michelle asked her to leave so she wouldn't overhear any of their conversations.
There were still leftovers on the table, but Stephen didn't mind. He asked Michelle to bring him a fork and a plate and began to eat.
Now that the heavy weight in his heart had been lifted, his appetite had returned.
Abigail rushed over, cooked two new dishes, and then quickly left again.
The Pitts had been acting strangely, not wanting the staff to linger near the living room and telling them to return to their rooms once their tasks were done.
After eating until he was half-full, Stephen finally began to think about what to do next.
They had deleted the earlier tweet, and Demi had firmly declared at the press conference that she and Ana were not twin sisters. This proved they had lied. Furthermore, the matter of them abandoning Demi in a burning car hadn't been properly explained either.
Given all this, the company's stock would still continue to fall.
At this point, the simplest method was to admit the truth—that Demi was their biological daughter, and Ana was the one they had mistakenly taken home.
Demi's attitude had never softened toward them, so she was probably hoping they'd do just that. But if they did that, it would surely hurt Ana.
Stephen couldn't help but look at Ana sitting on the living room couch.
Ana noticed his gaze and quickly sat up nervously, softly calling out, "Dad…"
Stephen silently shook his head in his mind. No matter what, he couldn't bear to throw Ana into the mud.
So, the only option left was to talk things over with Demi and persuade her to agree to the story that she and Ana were twin sisters. Only then could they have the best of both worlds.
