A Second Life, A New Power novel Chapter 420

"You didn't put this inside the pillow, did you?" Demi pointed to the talisman hidden inside the down feathers of the pillow.

Dalton and Melissa were both stunned. They never realized there was such a thing in their pillow.

Melissa froze for a moment and instinctively reached for it, but Demi stopped her.

"Is this why I can't sleep? Who put this in here?" Melissa asked in a trembling voice.

"Yes." Demi didn't answer her second question but addressed the first one. She reached out and pinched the talisman between her thumb and index finger.

Everyone could finally see the talisman clearly. The yellow paper had dark red symbols drawn on it.

Demi chanted a spell, and the talisman ignited without any visible flame, instantly turning to ashes.

"Who put this in here?" Melissa furrowed her brows, murmuring to herself as she tried to think.

"Would she be able to sleep better now without it?" Dalton asked, his voice filled with concern.

"What about my father? Does he have this in his pillow?" Matthew asked with a frown.

"No," Demi shook her head.

"But that doesn't make sense. This pillow was only bought a little over a year ago, but Mom's been having trouble sleeping for almost five years. That means... this talisman probably doesn't really do anything, right?" Olivia frowned, skeptical.

She was young and had been educated in a way that made her firmly believe in logic and science.

"Also, my mom and dad sleep on the same bed. This talisman is so close to my dad, yet he sleeps fine. Why is that?" Olivia continued questioning.

"Because this talisman is meant specifically for Mrs. Hort. The symbols on the paper include her birth details and some of Mrs. Hort's hair. In addition to the talisman, there are other things," Demi answered.

Everyone was left speechless. Things were getting more mysterious by the second!

"What other things?" Dalton asked, now visibly anxious.

Demi looked up at the ceiling.

As the Horts were a wealthy family, their house had towering ceilings at a little over nine feet.

With a quick motion, Demi leaped up, extending her hand toward the ceiling. Amidst the dust that fell, she retrieved a triangular object wrapped in red cloth.
