Year Five: The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 64

She took her time getting ready, carefully choosing her outfit to suit her own taste—a rare sense of anticipation fluttering in her chest.

It had been so long since she’d felt like this.

Back when she was with Shipley, she was always “expected” to dress in the styles he liked. After Vianne returned, the two of them never went out alone again. The whole ritual of dressing up, putting on makeup—it felt like another lifetime.

Now, as Silvia quietly fussed with her makeup, her phone suddenly rang again.

She glanced at the screen. It was that same unknown number from last night. After a brief hesitation, she answered.

“Sweet Silvia, did you think it was funny to block my number?”

Shipley’s voice came through, laced with amusement but edged with annoyance.

He actually called?

She’d assumed the mystery call was from a former work contact—certainly not Shipley. Then again, only he would be so inconsiderate as to call her in the middle of the night, completely disregarding her need for sleep.

Her voice was cool, as if she were speaking to a stranger. “If you have something to say, just say it.”

“Sweet Silvia, if you keep talking to your big brother like this, I may not be so forgiving.” Shipley’s tone softened, but there was a chill beneath the surface. “You’re out of work now. How long do you think you can keep paying rent? Come home, alright?”

Home?

Silvia’s lips curled in a faint, bitter smile, her eyes tinged with sarcasm.

That place was never her home.

She brushed blush across her cheeks and answered evenly, “I’m back in Capital City.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Shipley’s voice rose, genuinely surprised.

He was breathing hard now, his voice strange, almost frantic. “Sweet Silvia, buy a ticket back to Luminova City. I’ll pick you up at the airport.”
