Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 189

Silvia locked eyes with Kent, their gazes locked in a silent standoff, neither willing to give an inch.

The atmosphere in the hospital room suddenly turned strange, tense enough that even the hum of the machines seemed to fade into the background.

Then, Nannie broke the silence. “Miss Ashford, since Kent wants you to stay, then stay.”

With Kent in the room, Nannie seemed transformed—like she finally had someone in her corner. Though her voice remained soft, a subtle confidence and pride crept into her words, as if she’d finally found something solid to lean on.

“…Alright.”

Silvia didn’t leave. Instead, she dragged a chair over and sat right by the door. Leaning back against the chair, one hand propping up her chin, she stared at the people in front of her through a haze of unreadable thoughts.

She didn’t care if anyone could decipher her emotions right now. In fact, she preferred it that way.

“Kent.” Nannie gave a quiet little laugh, quickly masking her happiness as she reached for Kent’s hand. She held onto him, swaying his hand just a bit, her bright eyes shining, though tears still slipped down her cheeks. “My head really hurts… I can’t take it anymore. I don’t know this hospital, it feels so strange here. Can we go back to the old hospital? I know everyone there, it would make me feel better.”

Her voice was gentle, her request clinging to Kent, almost childlike in its vulnerability.

Silvia watched silently from her seat, her body suddenly tensing. She recognized Nannie’s act all too well—she’d done it herself, once. Back then, she’d clung to Shipley’s hand, coaxing love and comfort from him with the same kind of softness. Now, watching another woman do the same to her own husband, Silvia’s feelings twisted into something complicated.
