Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 237

“Silvia, that’s an interesting thing to say.” Laurinda let out a quiet laugh, her eyes sparkling with mischief as she glanced at Silvia, a hint of a smirk on her lips. “I don’t even know your coworker. How am I supposed to have any idea?”

“Do you truly not know, Aunt Laurinda, or are you just pretending?” Silvia pressed, her tone unyielding.

Their gazes met and locked in midair. Laurinda held Silvia’s stare, the curve of her smile growing more pronounced. After a moment, she replied, “I honestly have no idea. Or do you actually suspect I was behind it?”

“You know perfectly well what I mean,” Silvia replied coolly.

She’d been mulling over this for ages, and the more she thought about it, the more Laurinda seemed like the only possible culprit. Shipley was still in the hospital—hardly in any condition to be orchestrating anything. The company had just opened, and Silvia hadn’t made any enemies yet. The Ashford family had always kept to themselves, with a reputation for being agreeable and harmless.

The only person Silvia had ever rubbed the wrong way lately was Laurinda—who at times seemed downright unhinged.

Seeing Silvia’s unrelenting suspicion, Laurinda’s smile faded, her expression turning cold. “Silvia, that’s a bit much, don’t you think? What do you mean, I ‘know perfectly well’? You’re throwing around accusations at me for no reason. I haven’t even complained about being wronged!”

Laurinda sounded so open and straightforward, as if Silvia really had been mistaken all along.

But Silvia knew: if Laurinda didn’t want to give anything away, there was no way to get a straight answer out of her.

Maybe I’ve been barking up the wrong tree, Silvia thought.

She took a deep breath and forced herself to let it go. “If you truly have no idea who might have tried to hurt you, then I won’t bother you any further.”

“Wait—don’t go,” Laurinda called out as Silvia turned to leave. She reached out, her cold hand curling around Silvia’s wrist.
