Later that evening, Silvia was lying on her bed, resting after dinner, when her phone buzzed with a call from Kent.
She glanced at the caller ID, the corners of her lips twitching into a faint, ironic smile. The look in her eyes held a trace of bitter amusement.
So, he’s managed to smooth things over with his darling Nannie, and now he’s got time to come check on me.
Silvia pressed the answer button. Kent’s deep voice came through, steady and quiet. “Silvia, you’ve made it back home.”
“Yeah.” Her reply was calm, almost indifferent.
She kept her gaze fixed on the window, her brows drawn together in a thoughtful frown. “Mr. Parsons, I think there are things between us that are still unresolved. Maybe you should sort out your own affairs before we talk about ours.”
After what had happened today, Silvia realized she couldn’t just stand aside and pretend nothing mattered. As much as she tried to be detached, she still cared about what was going on between Kent and Nannie.
It wasn’t the same as what she’d felt for Shipley in the past. Now, she didn’t expect grand gestures—just loyalty. Silvia had already stopped chasing after love.
Kent paused at her words, his eyes clouding over. He let out a long breath before speaking again. “Silvia, I’m sorry.”
She’d lost track of how many times she’d heard Kent apologize. It was starting to feel absurd.
“Mr. Parsons, if you really mean that, then you should settle things with Miss Spencer first. That’s what you owe me.”
Silvia raised a hand to rub her brow, fatigue flickering in her clear eyes. She let out a slow breath, her voice tinged with resignation.
