"I've passed on the message."
In a private suite at a club, Herbert kicked Zebulon, who was sitting off to the side, drinking. "Let me tell you, my family is hosting this party to bring people in on a venture. Don't you dare screw it up for me."
George's standing within the Spencer family had been slipping, a result Herbert's father found unacceptable. So, he planned to invite their neighbors in the community to collaborate on something big.
Mr. Spencer had never given up on returning to the family's inner circle and had been working towards that goal for years.
He had recently learned of a prime business opportunity. If he could get these families to work together, they could achieve something significant, which would surely catch the attention of the patriarch.
Their return might even be settled.
"How would I screw it up?" Zebulon said, looking utterly dejected. "I just want a chance to see her."
"I never knew the campus was this big."
After his failed confession, Zebulon hadn't seen Naomi once.
And since Naomi had blocked all of them, there was no way to contact her.
He saw posts on the school forum about other guys confessing to Naomi, and a hollow sense of anxiety washed over him, as if a rose that belonged to him had been plucked by someone else.
Herbert had already heard about what had been happening from Carter and the others. He snapped, "If you knew this would happen, why did you act like that before?"
"You never gave Naomi the time of day."
Who was this lovesick act for now?
Especially since he'd slept with Tiffany.
Herbert shook his head, his eyes filled with disbelief. "You're really not picky."
No matter how much they fooled around, none of them would make a mistake like that.
A wealthy family would never accept a girl with an ordinary, common background.
If Tiffany ended up pregnant, it would be a scandal even for the Hughes family.
"I..."
Zebulon's voice was laced with frustration. "I regret it, okay? But Naomi is ruthless! She won't give me a single chance!"
Herbert was speechless.
