Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 13

Naomi had no idea why such random thoughts were popping into her head. Her cheeks flushed as she quickly stepped out of Lennon's arms.

Her voice was as quiet as a mosquito's buzz. "Thank you, Lennon."

Lennon dropped his hands as soon as Naomi was steady, as if catching her was merely a reflex and not an excuse to hold her.

Ron's big eyes darted back and forth between them before his mouth puckered in displeasure.

Already feeling awkward, Naomi noticed the unhappiness on the face of the little boy. "What's wrong with Ron?" she asked quickly.

Lennon glanced down at the boy and patted his bottom lightly. "He's probably upset his slobbery kiss was rejected," he said flatly.

"Huh?"

Naomi was confused for a second before realizing Lennon's "slobbery kiss" was the wet patch she'd felt on her face. She rubbed her hands together awkwardly. "Oh, so that was... I'm sorry, Ron. I was just startled. It's not that I didn't like it."

Standing on the stairs with the child in his arms, Lennon looked down and saw the top of Naomi's soft, fluffy hair.

Her ears were red enough to steam, and she kept wringing her frozen fingers, looking helpless and adorable.

He subtly averted his gaze and asked the boy in his arms, "Do you want to go out and play?"

Naomi looked up, thinking he was talking to her, but then she saw his handsome profile bathed in a gentle light, as if haloed by a warm, white glow that made his features seem even more refined.

The usual frost on his stern face had melted, revealing a hint of boyishness.

Perhaps her stare was too direct, because he suddenly glanced over at her.

She quickly looked away, feeling a bit mortified.

She'd lost count of how many times she'd been caught staring at Lennon.
