When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 262

“The Garland family finally managed to get a foothold in business. You wouldn’t want all that hard work to just vanish from Westhaven, would you?” Nelly shot a pleading look at Jonah, but he acted like he didn’t notice her at all. Today, it seemed like he was determined to show the Garlands exactly where they stood.

“The Watson family…” Tina’s voice trailed off. She knew exactly what that name meant. In Westhaven, the Watsons could make the whole business world shake with just one move. The man in front of her was one of them? And Nelly had managed to get close to the Watsons? The thought left Tina so stunned she couldn’t even process it. She glared at Nelly, but this time, she didn’t dare say a word.

Jonah saw her go quiet and finally let go of her arm. Tina’s knees buckled and she nearly fell, but Alan caught her just in time. “Ma’am.”

“How’s Mr. Garland?” Jonah asked, finally turning to Nelly. His whole vibe changed. Suddenly, he was gentle, his tone much softer.

Nelly was thrown off for a moment. When Jonah walked in just now, she’d almost thought he was the same masked man from the casino. The way they carried themselves was exactly the same. But she shook the idea away just as quickly. Jonah couldn’t possibly be that man. He was always the proper, polite young son of the Watson family, gentle and well-mannered. He could never have the same dangerous, rogue energy as that masked stranger. Besides, if it really was Jonah, why would he hide it from her?

“Oh, he’s okay. The wound got infected and he’s been running a high fever, but he’s asleep now.” Nelly replied without thinking, giving way more detail than necessary. Only after she finished did she realize Jonah probably didn’t care much about Brody’s condition. He was just being polite.

“What about you?” Jonah’s eyes lingered on her, checking her over.

“I’m fine.” Nelly shook her head. “Let’s go.”
