Emily was a big deal, a real celebrity with a spotless reputation. She couldn’t have made such a basic mistake… could she?
A journalist called out, “Emily, can you tell us what’s actually going on with your dress?”
Questions came from every direction. “We just checked Jeva’s official site. Only Sabina’s gown is listed as loaned out. There’s no record of yours.”
“That dress is called ‘Flowers,’” someone said, scrolling through their phone, “and the website says the only existing sample is still with Ms. Tracing.”
“So how did you get that supposedly finished gown from Ms. Tracing?” another reporter asked.
“Emily, was there some other channel…?”
“Emily…?”
If Emily really had connections with Ms. Tracing, someone powerful enough to lend out such a rare gown, why couldn’t she even get the one Sabina was wearing at first? One question led to another, and the more everyone looked into it, the more suspicious things seemed. The official site had no mention of Emily’s dress, so people started whispering. Was Emily wearing a fake?
“I…” Emily tried to speak up, but she hesitated. Revealing Charlotte’s involvement would only bring her more trouble. The truth hovered on the edge of her lips, and she let it drop.
“Emily, your dress…” Jarrod noticed her hesitation and leaned in, his brow furrowing. “Did someone scam you?”
Scammed? He wasn’t even hiding his suspicion. He thought she was wearing a counterfeit.
Emily met his eyes and disappointment flickered inside her.
She was still searching for the right words when someone else stepped in.
