Lilly’s morning sickness wasn’t letting up. She felt bile rise into her throat, and it was so bad that tears stung her eyes. Taking a shaky breath, she leaned over the sink, turned on the tap, and splashed her face with cold water, hoping it would help.
Someone appeared behind her. “Hey, Lilly.” It was Pattie.
Lilly straightened up, trying to look less miserable. “Hey. Do you need the bathroom?”
Pattie smiled, looking both shy and excited. “Lilly, are you close with Victoria’s brother?”
The question caught Lilly off guard. She nodded. “Yeah. I know him.”
Pattie moved a little closer, fiddling with her fingers. “Lilly, can you do me a favor?”
“What is it?” Lilly said, her voice gentle. “If I can help, I will.”
Pattie leaned in, eyes hopeful. “Could you get Jason’s number for me?”
For a second, Lilly just stared. Realization clicked—Pattie had a crush on Jason, and not the mild kind either. Honestly, it didn’t surprise her. Jason was young, handsome, rich, and ran his own company. The kind of guy everyone noticed and nobody forgot. There were probably tons of girls who’d love a shot with him.
The thing was, Jason never seemed to have many women around, except for Hanna. His world always felt kind of… spotless. Maybe that was why Lilly forgot how appealing he really was.
“Please, Lilly?” Pattie tugged gently at the sleeve of her shirt, sounding extra sweet. “Can you help me out just this once?”
Lilly hesitated. She genuinely didn’t want to ask him for his number. “Why not ask Victoria? He’s her brother. It’d probably be easier.”
Pattie shook her head immediately. “If I ask Victoria and she turns me down, it’d be super embarrassing. I don’t want my other friends to know, so you’re the only one I can ask—please, Lilly, just help me?”
The pleading in her voice was hard to ignore.
