Lucas took another step forward, his eyes locked on Lilly. “Lilly, I don’t care about Sarah anymore. I’m into you now.”
Lilly’s mind went completely blank. She never expected Lucas to change so much. The guy who used to ignore her, who cheated on her without a second thought, was now standing here saying he’d changed, saying he was interested in her.
Before she could react, Lucas reached out and pulled her into a hug.
Lilly’s body was soft and delicate in his arms, her sweet scent flooding his senses. Lucas held her tightly. “Lilly, let’s be together.”
Outside, Jace was standing by the door. He’d been about to go in and find Lilly, but then a flashy sports car had pulled up. Lucas had arrived.
Jace watched as Lucas knocked. He watched Lilly open the door.
Now, all he could do was stand there and watch as Lucas held Lilly close.
Jace’s hands curled into fists at his sides. His knuckles cracked quietly in the still air.
The scene cut straight through him.
But after a moment, he slowly let his hands relax. Wasn’t this what he wanted? He’d tried to push Lilly away, and now it was happening.
Jace turned and walked off.
Back inside, Lilly shoved Lucas away with both hands. “Lucas, what’s wrong with you?”
Lucas stumbled backward, slamming into the door.
Lilly looked at him, her expression icy. “I never realized how full of yourself you are. Let me make this clear. Your breakup with Sarah has nothing to do with me. I’m not getting together with you.”
Lucas stared at her, confused. “Why not?”
