Mr. Lynch held out a glass of water and some fever medicine. “Allie, come on, take your meds.”

Allie lay in bed, looking exhausted. “Dad, I don’t want to.”

Mr. Lynch gave her a look. “What’s wrong, sweetheart? Jace turned you down?”

Allie shot him a glare. Of course he’d bring that up now. Her heart already hurt enough.

Mr. Lynch just laughed. “Allie, I told you, didn’t I? Jace isn’t someone you can win over. Let it go, honey. Forget him.”

Allie didn’t answer.

“There are so many amazing guys out there,” her dad went on. “I know a bunch of them. I can introduce you. You know what they say, the best way to get over someone is to meet someone new.”

Allie just hugged her comforter tighter, staying silent.

Mr. Lynch set the medicine on her nightstand. “Allie, please take this. I’ll leave you to rest.”

He left the room.

Allie slowly sat up and took her medicine, then lay down again, hoping sleep would make it all go away.

She knew her dad was right. She should just forget about Jace.

He’d never really cared about her, not for real.
