I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 664

I was stunned by Linda's outburst, and David was even more shocked.

The next thing I knew, she lunged at me, wrapping me in a bear hug and crying out as she pounded on my back. My back is all bone, so it hurt, but before I could complain, she yelped that my back was too thin and it hurt her hand to hit it.

David's jaw dropped. "You know Zephyra? You two seem awfully close."

Linda explained that the "dead" friend she'd been mourning was me. She couldn't believe I was alive and called me a jerk for making her sad for days.

We had apparently gotten off to a rocky start, so we weren't exactly best friends, but we worked in the same field. If I had really died, she would have genuinely regretted it.

David gasped again. "But... I didn't think you had much sympathy for entry-level people."

Linda exploded and punched him hard.

"Who told you Zephyra was entry-level? She was Mr. Taylor's star protégée, my former boss, and a top-ten finalist in an international competition! My God, entry-level? Are you blind, you idiot?"

David was completely dumbfounded.

My eyes went wide too.

So, I had a real career, and a pretty good one at that.

Steven... why didn't he tell me?!

Then Linda turned on me. "And you! It's one thing to disappear without a word, but to come out to the countryside and pretend to be a nobody? Is it that much fun tricking newcomers? I really thought I'd found a promising new talent. I even brought Mr. Taylor with me. When he gets here, you can explain yourself."

I rubbed my nose and studied Linda. Short-tempered and straightforward, she wore her heart on her sleeve. She didn't seem too difficult to get along with.

And she seemed genuinely happy that I wasn't dead.

"We won't stand by and watch him make the same mistake twice. If you keep bothering him, I'll deal with you myself."

Linda blinked, confused, seemingly surprised by Myron's harsh words. Meanwhile, his tirade sent waves of turmoil through me.

"You're being ridiculous. I'm here as a job applicant, not as some pathetic charity case clinging to Steven. If you don't want me, I'll leave. Do you feel superior mocking someone with amnesia?"

"Besides, relationships are between two people. If I wronged Steven, he can get revenge on me himself. But you—you can only look after him. You have no right to 'deal with me' on his behalf. I don't care if you're his friend. Even if you were his current girlfriend, you wouldn't have that right."

Myron laughed, exasperated. He looked at my expressionless face and tightened his grip on the car keys.

"Zephyra, I can't believe I ever admired you. When I tried to set you up with Steven, you wanted nothing to do with him. Now that you have amnesia, you're clinging to him. Sharp-tongued before, sharp-tongued now. You only ever think about yourself."

"Hah. Well, life isn't that easy. I'm going to get involved. Tonight, I'm going to find another woman for him. I'll make sure you never get into his bed or his heart again. I'll be the one to end this toxic connection for you—"
