I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 665

Myron lowered his voice, clearly speaking just for me.

I looked up at him, and just then, a low, cold, familiar voice called out from nearby, “Mr. Taylor.”

I followed the sound and saw Steven's young, handsome face. Dressed casually, he was striding toward us.

Myron's eyes lit up as he hurried to greet him. “Steven, I told you there was no need to pick me up. You didn't have to.”

Steven smiled, patting Myron's shoulder before coming to my side. “Zephyra mentioned she had an interview, so I came to see. Is she applying to your company?”

The two men exchanged glances. I curled my lip and said coolly, “Yes, but I'm not going to work for this company. I've decided not to interview.”

Myron shot me a look, a cold sneer playing on his lips, sparks flying in his eyes.

“Don't worry, even if my company were desperate, I wouldn't hire you. Anyone who makes Steven unhappy makes me unhappy.”

Steven frowned. “Why are you being so harsh with her?”

Myron was taken aback. “Steven… are you serious? I'm trying to help you!”

Steven stared at him. “She and I are one and the same.”

I couldn't help but glance at Steven. His expression was serious, his tone sincere, with no trace of petulance. Even though I'd rejected him time and again and tried to draw a line between us, seeing him defend me like this still made my heart pound.

Myron was exasperated, frustrated by his friend's stubbornness.

“You're hopeless, Steven, completely hopeless!”

“There's a reason Zephyra can walk all over you! With this attitude, she'll have you wrapped around her finger for the rest of your life!”

Steven ignored him and turned to me, his tone calm.

“If you're not interviewing, let's go back. Rest in your room. We're returning to the city tomorrow.”

“Mr. Taylor was never harsh with you before. He took special care of you, so much so that I thought you had connections. For him to be so aggressive today is just unbelievable.” Linda's eyes gleamed with a thirst for gossip as she steered the conversation to a topic she found more interesting. “And the way you get along with Mr. Lancaster now that you have amnesia is also incredible. Before, you two were basically… Now that you listen to him so obediently, do you think you might like him a little?”

I shook my head. Linda clucked her tongue. “A lot of women like Mr. Lancaster. He's talented, rich, and incredibly handsome. If you like him, you have to seize the opportunity! I'll always be rooting for you!”

I glanced at her but didn't answer.

A smile lingered on Linda's cheeks as she started telling me about the small fishing village, covering everything from its history to its current developments.

I thought it was nice listening to someone else's stories. It was just a shame she wouldn't tell me anything about my past, not a single detail. But she did explain her reasons sincerely.

She said she didn't know much about my personal life. Our relationship was, at best, a mutual respect between peers. We'd even had a serious falling out before, but she was eventually won over by my skills. Otherwise, she'd still be my rival today.

I didn't press her.

I could tell she was a straightforward person, one who laid all her cards on the table. But in her eyes, I could see joy and relief that I was still alive.
