I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 663

"There's no point in insisting. After all, someone always seems to stand in the way of what I want. As long as she suffers a little less, that's enough."

Gordon looked completely baffled. She'd taken the amnesia drug; what did soul and body have to do with it?

"Who is standing in your way?"

Steven crushed the cigarette with his long fingers. He stared at the dark sky, his expression silent and bone-chillingly cold.

"Everyone."

Everyone stood in his way.

He had thought the memories were truly gone, that she would never remember. He had finally come to terms with that and was ready for a fresh start.

Their relationship had finally made progress. They seemed distant, but her heart was moving closer to his. They could finally be at peace with each other, no longer at odds, no longer on edge.

A warm, comfortable existence.

A life like that wouldn't have been so bad.

But who could have predicted she would so suddenly remember their first life together?

Hah.

Was it destined, then? That he would never get what he wanted?

The next day, the sky was bright, and warm sunlight streamed through the window.

I groggily opened my eyes. As I started to sit up, I realized an arm was wrapped tightly around my waist. More than that, my entire back was pressed against a hard, warm body. My neck stiffened as I turned to look.

Steven was right behind me. My head was resting on his arm, and my whole body was cradled in his embrace.

It was as natural and intimate as if we were an old married couple.

There were a lot of scenes like this in my dream.

In the dream, Steven was easily aroused in the morning. He would either wake me from a deep sleep to make love, or we would both be awake, and what started with just a few kisses would turn into a fiery passion...

David clicked his tongue, about to tease me, when his phone rang. He exchanged a few quick words and hung up, turning to me excitedly. "Go get changed! My sister will be back any minute!"

"Oh, and her boss will be here too. You'll want to make a good impression. Try to look the part. Even starting at the bottom would be a huge opportunity for you!"

I thought he had a point, so I freshened up and went with David to meet his sister.

His sister's friend had just passed away, so David warned me not to mention death at all. He said his sister had a short temper and I shouldn't get on her bad side.

I was on my best behavior.

A car pulled up, and a beautiful woman in sunglasses got out. David rushed to greet her. "Sis! You're finally back! I missed you like crazy."

Then he immediately introduced me. "This is the girl I was telling you about. She has some design background. Her name is Zephyra. She's the one you're interviewing. I don't think she's a genius or anything, but she should be fine as an assistant."

I stood next to David and smiled brightly. "Hello."

But when the woman saw me, she suddenly shrieked, "Zephyra, what the hell kind of game are you playing with me—"
