It also wasn't likely to be someone from her past; her current identity was secure.
But whoever it was, coming to this alley was a line they shouldn't have crossed.
An old woman lived here, after all.
The thug trembled, scared out of his wits. "I... I don't know, miss... we just take odd jobs. Someone pays us, we do the work. We really don't know who sent us."
He was speaking incoherently.
But Rosalind caught the important detail. "You take contracts from the dark web?"
"Well..." The thug glanced at his fallen comrade on the ground.
Seeing this, Rosalind lifted her leg and stomped her black boot on the man's hand.
The man instantly curled into a ball of pain, slapping the ground with his free hand. "Yes! We... we take illicit contracts!"
Only then did Rosalind remove her foot. She looked at the man, pale with fear. "Looks like you're the leader. So tell me, what were the terms of the contract?"
"To... to make you leave Sol, by any means necessary," the man said, clutching his aching hand, all thoughts of resistance gone. "Maybe you should, uh, try to remember if you have any enemies."
Rosalind nonchalantly released her grip. "Too many to remember."
The thugs: ...
Warner, standing to the side, smiled. His crisp suit was immaculate, and his deep, handsome eyes were fixed on Rosalind.
Rosalind suspected he was using his good looks to charm her and raised an eyebrow. "I guess being handsome gives you the right to laugh at anyone."
Warner stepped closer and smoothed back a stray strand of her long hair that had been mussed during the fight. His voice was husky. "Do you need David to look into it for you?"
