Hans hesitated. “An ECG? Is it that serious? It only happens occasionally…”
“You must go,” Rosalind said, handing him a business card. “Or you can come find Veritas Medical in the city.”
Hans took the card, still pondering her words.
The two kids were already heading down the mountain, moving with surprising speed, as if they were more familiar with the mountain paths than he was, and he spent most of his time in these forests.
Galeno was reluctant to go home, especially after hearing about wolves on the mountain. He was eager for a challenge.
Rosalind simply picked him up, set him on the back of her motorcycle, and fastened a black and red helmet on his head. “Hold the bag.”
Galeno sat up straight. “Mmmph!”
“You can come back and play by yourself another day.” Rosalind kicked up the motorcycle’s stand, swung her long leg over, her hair flying. A hint of weariness touched her stunningly beautiful face. “It’s 4:30. Grandma will be up at six to call us for breakfast.”
Galeno gestured excitedly, asking if she was sleeping at the clinic tonight too.
Rosalind leaned forward, gripping the handlebars. The engine roared to life, and her voice carried on the night wind. “I’ll be here for a while.”
The Tomahawk motorcycle cut a cool figure on the road. A larger and a smaller figure sat on it, the smaller one holding a large black bag made of some special, durable material. They sped off the highway.
Meanwhile, at the most luxurious hotel in downtown Sol, the Caesar Hotel.
The Task Force was still investigating. Finally, they had managed to lock down a location.
David was among them. “Sir, we’ve got it!”
Warner looked over, his eyes betraying a lack of sleep. His voice was low. “Report.”
“It’s not far from the city center, about 20 kilometers. Take the highway north and then…” David’s voice trailed off. “A wild mountain?”
Warner’s gaze shifted away, and he rose from the sofa.
“If you insist on going into the mountains to pick mushrooms today, and you start to feel unwell again, you must stop.”
Normally, Hans would have pushed through any dizziness, determined to find more mushrooms.
But today, he didn’t. After drinking some water and waiting for his breathing to steady, he cautiously made his way down the mountain.
Once his phone had a signal, he looked up his symptoms online and learned that if he had continued, he might have collapsed on the mountain from insufficient blood supply to his heart and never woken up.
Hans broke out in a cold sweat, a delayed wave of fear washing over him.
Thank goodness he ran into those two kids…
Thinking of this, he reached into his pocket and pulled out the business card.
What did the girl say? Oh, right. Find Veritas Medical on Tulip Lane.
