If they were going to revive Veritas Medical, they couldn’t be short on medicinal herbs.
Sol was located at the junction of two provinces, with a humid climate and dense forests. Just as you could find mushrooms, you could also find other treasures.
Those were Galeno’s favorites; he could find them by smell alone.
Most locals lived off the land.
Finding three or four wild ginseng roots was usually considered a good day’s work, but these two swept through nearly half the mountain.
On their way down, they ran into Hans Lee, a mushroom picker who always got an early start.
He was surprised to see someone out even earlier than him. “It’s still dark out! You two kids have a lot of nerve coming up here!”
He knew that things were generally peaceful these days, with most wild animals kept in reserves and unlikely to wander out.
But this was a wild mountain with signs at the base warning people not to enter. What were these two up to? Could they be those… hikers you see online?
Galeno, who had been yawning, perked up when he heard the voice and looked over. “Hmm?”
“And one of them’s mute?” Hans meant no harm. He approached with his flashlight, asking the older girl, “Is money tight at home? Are you here picking mushrooms to help out?”
Rosalind offered a faint smile. “Yes.”
Hans sighed heavily. “This is just reckless. Come on, follow me. I’ll take you both down. There are wolves on this mountain.”
Wolves?
Galeno straightened up, his eyes gleaming.
But Rosalind’s brow furrowed. “Wolves?”
Rosalind studied his face and didn’t leave right away. Instead, she said with a light laugh, “Actually, my family runs a clinic. I came here to gather some herbs for my grandmother. Her legs have been bothering her.”
“Gathering herbs?” Hans was stunned. “But… you just said…”
Rosalind lowered her eyes. “It was dark, and I was worried you might be a bad person. I overthought it. I’m sorry.”
“You should be cautious,” the mushroom picker said with a chuckle. “Alright, no harm done.”
Seeing he wasn’t bothered, Rosalind called out to him again. “Have you been feeling a tightness in your chest and shortness of breath lately? And frequent dizziness?”
“How did you know?” Hans spun around, his face a mask of shock.
Rosalind took Galeno’s hand. “I’ve learned a little medicine from my grandmother. If you insist on going into the mountains to pick mushrooms today, and you start to feel unwell again, you must stop immediately. Don’t push yourself. It would be best to get an ECG tomorrow to see what’s going on.”
