“I’ve told you a hundred times, that girl is not your sister!”
Rachel seemed unable to bear the thought of having Rosalind as a stepdaughter, and her voice rose. “Yolanda, you’re still young. You don’t understand that once people are poor, they’ll do anything to cling to you. You say she’s changed? That’s just an act to get by.”
Yolanda frowned. “But she does know medicine. Even Mr. Turner Sr. came to see her earlier.”
Rachel was stunned. “Are you saying the Turner family chose her?”
Yolanda bit her lip. “Not exactly. She was in a group with the Lopez family, and it was Mr. Lopez who stood out.”
Rachel sneered. “So she just latched onto the Lopez family. I underestimated that old hag. On her deathbed, and she’s finally willing to cash in on her old connections!”
Yolanda’s eyes darted thoughtfully. “So, Grandma’s medical skills are decent, then?”
Rachel scoffed. “She was responsible for a patient's death. Even if she has some skill, her reputation in this circle is ruined. Only the Lopez family would still give her the time of day.”
Yolanda fell silent, thinking.
“Yolanda,” Rachel said, taking her hand. “Don’t you worry. Even with the Lopez family’s help, that old woman will never amount to anything. Right now, our top priority is to find another way to get in with the Turner family.”
Yolanda looked up. “Well, there is one way.”
Rachel’s eyes lit up. “What is it?”
Yolanda averted her gaze. “I intentionally didn’t present the Celestial Nettle. I left it with the Turner family, thinking it would be an excuse to get back into the manor. Mom… was that a bad thing to do?”
