As Rosalind made her way out with the crowd, she casually pulled down the brim of her deep red baseball cap. Her expression was cool and indifferent, as if none of it had anything to do with her.
Boris, however, was bewildered. “Who do you think has the power to pull something like this off?”
“No idea,” Rosalind said, her voice light.
Boris stroked his chin. “Right, how would you know? Even I can't get any info, and Theodore’s in the dark too. Isn't that right, Theodore?”
Theodore, lost in thought, snapped back. “Huh? Oh, yeah.”
Rosalind glanced at him, her tone nonchalant. “What goes around comes around. If you haven’t done anything wrong, you have nothing to fear.”
Boris nodded. “I’m not scared. I don’t even practice medicine, and my grandpa just drinks all day, staying out of all this stuff.”
Theodore looked up. “I’m not scared either. I trust my old man.”
Rosalind offered a faint smile. “Grandma always used to tell me that after her accident, Grandpa Hugo was the only old friend who still stood by her. Mr. Lopez will be fine.”
That seemed to finally put Theodore at ease, and he started muttering, “I never liked the Gonzalezes anyway. I saw how nasty they were at the hospital, trying to bully people. I put them in their place then, and now… heh! I don’t know which hero took them down, but I have to say, bravo! A true knight in shining armor!”
“Indeed,” Rosalind agreed without a hint of shame, accepting her new follower's praise. Her voice was even. “The Gonzalez family is finished. It’s about time we had our turn at the top.”
Theodore’s handsome face lit up. “Exactly! This…”
Wait, why did that sentence also sound so familiar?
Had he been spending too much time scrolling through social media?
Theodore tugged at his earbud, thoroughly confused.
Walking ahead of him, Rosalind’s lips curved into a smile. Just as she neared the exit of the main hall, a sudden realization made her turn and look up toward the top floor of the manor.
There was a glass room, offering the best view of the entire estate.
The Turner family, she thought, was not to be underestimated. Especially Mr. Warner Turner…
The Turner family had always been exceptionally discreet.
Besides, the head of the family, Warner, had known about this operation all along.
Otherwise, it wouldn't have gone so smoothly.
The Task Force agents made a point to thank him personally.
Warner, dressed in a sharp suit, stood in the glass room at the highest point of the manor, looking down over the grounds. His eyes were calm as he said, “Mr. Bishop, there’s no need for thanks. The Turner family isn't infallible. Our system was breached as well. My men were not up to the task.”
Hearing this, David, the head of security, didn’t dare lift his head.
Mr. Bishop was a veteran. “This informant is no small fry. They’re ruthless and highly skilled at network intrusion. We’ve sent out feelers and are trying to contact an elite cybersecurity division to see if they can find them.”
“Even you couldn't find out who did it?” Warner toyed with a bracelet of deep red beads on his wrist. His eyes were as deep as an ancient well, and a faint, intrigued smile played on his lips. Interesting…
