Rosalind stood tall and elegant, a cool, knowing glint in her eyes. “That’s right. It should be stored away from strong light, and it's also highly sensitive to storage temperature. I put it in my bag to protect its medicinal value. Surely the Gonzalez family isn’t ignorant of such basic medicinal knowledge?”
Her words sent a ripple of murmurs through the room.
The crowd erupted into a clamor!
George was still sneering. “I’ve heard enough of your non—”
“George, be quiet!” Grace blurted out, her voice tight.
George froze, turning to look at his aunt’s expression.
Then he looked at the gazes directed at him from all around.
Instantly, panic flashed across his face.
Could that wretched girl actually be telling the truth?
“Hahaha, she’s clearly Megan’s protégée, with a sharp sense for identifying herbs.” The laughter came from Wayne Young, the patriarch of the Young family. He had been slouching in a corner with his eyes half-closed, looking like any other old man. Now, he lifted an eyelid and gestured to his grandson, Leonard. “You should learn from her.”
Leonard adopted a humble posture, his movements graceful. “Yes, Grandfather.”
Nathan, however, remarked lightly, “Wayne, you’re exaggerating. She just found a clever loophole.”
“Ex-exactly!” George seized the opportunity to save face. “I just wasn’t thinking along those lines. That little girl really knows how to exploit a situation!”
Nathan’s comment had been perfectly timed and sufficient.
But George’s addition only confirmed his own foolishness. Someone in the crowd couldn't help but chuckle.
Grace wished she could run over and clamp a hand over her nephew’s mouth!
George still didn't get it. The laughter grated on his nerves until he finally snapped, glaring at the crowd. “Who was that? If you have the guts, laugh to my face!”
“That would be me.” Letitia raised a hand, her confident air undiminished.
