"Thank you all for taking the time from your busy schedules to be here. I am deeply grateful."
Letitia Turner, dressed in a black gown, descended the stairs. She looked out over the hall, her presence commanding.
Theodore immediately sucked in a breath. "It's been so many years, how is she still so intimidating?"
Rosalind raised an eyebrow. "You know her?"
"She's the eldest daughter of the Turner family. Was in the military, now she's in business, I think," Theodore said, adding, "Don't you dare act up in front of her. She could probably knock you out with one punch."
Rosalind took his advice, lowering her head to pop another candy in her mouth, appearing perfectly harmless.
Letitia had sharp, striking features, an undeniable beauty.
It was clear that despite her tough exterior, she had an excellent upbringing.
"The Turner family has prepared a small gift for each of our esteemed guests."
With a clap of her hands, a gift box rose up beside each person's seat.
Seeing this, Rosalind's eyes took on a playful glint.
George, who was sitting not far from her, sneered, "Some people have probably never seen such fine things in their lives. Look how their eyes are lighting up!"
Theodore was getting really annoyed with this guy.
Rosalind, however, didn't care. The gifts from the Turner family were genuinely good.
Besides, she could take them home to feed Galeno.
She didn't let George's mockery stop her.
Letitia scanned the room. Most people were hesitant, not touching the gift boxes.
Even the members of the great families feigned indifference, as if they were above such material things.
This disappointed Letitia somewhat. Were the four great families of Sol really this disingenuous?
Letitia was a businesswoman, and she had one principle: no one disliked money.
If they did, it just meant you weren't offering enough.
"You're just a little upstart!" George exploded. "You have provoked the Gonzalez family time and again, and we have tolerated it. I won't let you off the hook today!"
Rosalind's gaze was steady. "And how, exactly, is a man whose arm I've already disabled going to not let me off the hook?"
George looked ready to charge at her.
Grace slammed her hand on the table. "Young lady, I don't care where you came from, but if you don't provide a proper explanation for insulting the Gonzalez family like this, I will be the first to object!"
Theodore tugged at Rosalind's sleeve. You're being so aggressive, I can't protect you! Grandma Megan clearly said you were well-behaved and sensible! Is this well-behaved and sensible?
Theodore frantically tried to signal Rosalind with his eyes.
"An explanation?" Rosalind remained unmoved, her eyes incredibly dark. "What was it that I just packed?"
George immediately answered with contempt, "Cordyceps. Don't tell me you don't even recognize Cordyceps?"
In a flash, Grace seemed to realize something and moved to stop him.
But it was too late...
