Rosalind lifted her gaze, following the voice.
On the hospital bed, Mr. Martinez was awake. His eyes, unclouded by age, held a natural gravitas.
It was the aura of a man who had weathered the storms of the business world, something not just anyone could possess.
In terms of presence alone, even ten of Sean put together couldn't compare to the old man before her.
Even though he hadn't fully recovered, his tone spoke volumes.
Besides Mr. Martinez, the handsome patient from yesterday was also there.
He sat by the bed, his long legs crossed. Dressed casually instead of in a suit, he had a certain frail beauty. His hand, resting on his knee, was long and pale, with well-defined knuckles.
He seemed to be playing a game of chess with Mr. Martinez, and upon her arrival, the corner of his lip curled up slightly.
Rosalind first gave him a polite nod.
Then, she set down her black bag and walked over to Mr. Martinez, her smile faint but composed, neither servile nor arrogant. “Savior is too strong a word. It’s a doctor’s duty to treat patients.”
However, upon seeing her strikingly beautiful face, Mr. Martinez froze, his hand hovering over a game piece.
She looked so much like his wife when she was young!
If he hadn’t been so busy building his business back then, his wife would never have left Prax.
As Mr. Martinez thought this, his eyes remained fixed on the young woman’s face.
“Not at all,” Rosalind replied, unable to bear the sight of the old man's disappointment. After a moment's thought, she added, “Mr. Martinez, your family has done good deeds for generations. Your descendants won't suffer. Ms. Martinez will surely return safely.”
Hearing this, Mr. Martinez sat up straight, his face breaking into a wide smile. “Then I’ll take those auspicious words from you!”
Seeing the old man happy, Rosalind smiled as well.
Suddenly, the seated Warner spoke, his voice calm and even. “How did you know the Martinez family was looking for someone?”
It was a pointed question.
Rosalind’s eyes narrowed slightly. When she looked at the man again, the corners of her beautiful eyes curved. “A guess. Yesterday, while I was performing acupuncture on Mr. Martinez, he mumbled the name ‘Rose’ several times in his delirium.”
“I thought Mr. Lee might have told you.” Warner tilted his head, smiled, and went back to his game. “It doesn’t matter how you found out. You’re one of us now.”
