Hearing the phrase “one of us.”
Mr. Martinez found it strange. “Since when do you consider anyone ‘one of us’?”
“Mr. Martinez, right now, my life is in her hands, just like yours,” Warner said, dusting off his sleeve. “Naturally, I know when to be pragmatic.”
Mr. Martinez couldn’t tell if he was being serious or not.
This young man from the Turner family had always been inscrutable, appearing frail on the surface but full of cunning.
Mr. Martinez had often wondered if arranging the engagement between him and Rose had been the right decision.
To be fair, the boy’s looks were impeccable. There wasn't a single young woman in their social circle who didn’t adore him.
No, he had to save him for his Rose. He would absolutely not agree to the boy’s request to break off the engagement!
“So you’re saying your illness can be cured?” Mr. Martinez snorted. “Then what are you doing here trying to break off the engagement with me, you brat!”
Warner frowned. “Mr. Martinez, let’s not mix issues.”
“I don’t agree, period.” Mr. Martinez was an expert at playing stubborn. “If you really want to break it off, fine. Wait until Rose comes back and tell her yourself!”
Warner understood his intention. As long as there was room for negotiation, things were manageable. “I’ll have my Shadows assist Mr. Lee in the search.”
“That’s more like it.” Being the one to have an engagement broken isn't exactly a glorious affair, but Mr. Martinez was unabashed, looking over at Rosalind. “My apologies for letting you witness this little drama.”
Rosalind shook her head and brought her medical case over. “Shall we begin today’s treatment?”
At this, Mr. Martinez’s admiration for this unknown Cure-Master grew.
Just as his people had reported, this young woman was extraordinary.
